Better Than a Boring Rehearsal Dinner in NYC: A Chocolate Dinner!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Whether you’re the parents of the groom who have been tasked with planning the rehearsal dinner or you’re a couple taking matters into your own hands, we’ve all been to enough rehearsal dinners to know that the format and the food are fatigued. A truly special couple deserves a truly special and memorable evening, featuring chocolate!

I’m a food writer specializing in craft chocolate in NYC, and I host curated chocolate tastings that deepen our understanding of one of our favorite foods. There are so many fun ways to incorporate chocolate into your rehearsal dinner:

  • Guided Tasting Led By Yours Truly. Treat guests to tasters of 5 to 10 bean-to-bar chocolates, plus goodies like whole cacao beans and fresh cacao fruit juice. This makes for a fantastic dessert, or it can be a full meal by adding pairings like cheese, bread, fruit, beer, spirits, and wine!

  • Chocolate Pairings for Each Course. Working with a fantastic caterer or restaurant? Great! I love collaborating with chefs to create chocolate-focused dinners. I planned a ton of them on my book tour, and they were always delicious and such great fun. Think anything from cacao-nib-encrusted lamb chops to chicken with mole sauce to an array of chocolate cookies and desserts.

  • Dessert Table. I can keep the savory and sweet separate and instead curate a dessert table with my secret chocolate chip cookies, single-origin brownies, truffles, chocolate bark, and more!

In other words, this is not your basic rehearsal dinner. This is for people who want to take a trip instead of get a nice piece of jewelry, people who love specialty coffee and cheese, people who are just as excited about their marriage as they are the wedding itself.

Plus I give back to local nonprofits through each and every event so that everyone can enjoy chocolate and feel the love.

So are you ready to get this out-of-the-ordinary rehearsal dinner started?

At my private chocolate tastings, we talk a LOT about where chocolate comes from, but it’s another thing to see it for yourself. Here is a little video I made a few years ago called “From Bean to Bonbon” that illustrates this process from start to finish. The best part? I can bring fresh cacao pods and fresh cacao juice to your tasting so you can try this delicious and unique fruit for yourself!
